Autocar A64B Semi Tractor

I'm a long-haul trucker, old-school. I love the older trucks, even though I drive a late model Peterbilt 389. This came out VERY well. I had some fit troubles with all axles - the metal rods for the rear axles were nearly an inch too long; the inner rods on the front axle were too long and I had to trim them to get the steer tire assemblies to fit right. The pedals weren't well planned - the hanging clutch and brake assembly was simply too wide for the space available, and would have put the brake pedal behind the throttle - I left the hanging assembly out. I didn't like the idea of being able to detail the batteries - then glue the covers on! I detailed one battery set and left that box open, and put the cover on the other. The rest went together quite well; there seemed to be a fair amount of trimming needed, but (as we say on the cb) ain't nuthin a big strapper like you can't handle!

This kit has ALWAYS come with the rear wheels CHROMED and I LOVE chrome! This was the only way those wheels were offered - through THIS kit, and they box art SHOWS the chrome rear wheels like it is SUPPOSE TO come with, not not when the cheap skates (AGAIN!) at ROUND 2 decide to make it again! NO! They are either stupid and know nothing about the RETRO & Classic kits to know that kit has ALWAYS come with CHROME REAR WHEELS (LIKE THE FRONT!) or they are d*** heads and decided to NOT give us what is PICTURED on the box, AGAIN! Just like the front tires on the other Autocar kit (dump truck) they cheap'ed out and put put in the same tires as the back, and to heck with the high floatation tires it shows on the box! I am getting mad. besides the false advertising, their quality as really gone hill since they make everything in CHINA these days! I use to LOVE this kit! I bought 4 of these, expecting to get something NEW!!! (chrome rear wheels!!! Nope! same old; I already have 6 extra sheets (sprues) of these wheels from the western stars! Why do i want 3 more now and still no chrome ones!

This was a bit of a nostalgia build. The truck that ended my dads driving career. He lifted the hood to check the oil and messed up his back. Never was the same again. He took me for many rides when I was a kid. Typical amt big rig kit. Take your time. You’ll end up with something cool. Don’t shy away from these kits. They just take more time.
