Prairie 2-6-2 w/Smoke Vandy Tender SP #1905

Overall I have been pleasantly surprised with this model. But regardless of road name there is a problem with the Vanderbilt tenders. The oil bunker is too high for the size of the engine. But this can be lessened and made to look more prototypical by putting some 33 wheels under the tender, smaller than those as delivered. I recommend Intermountain IRC #40050 wheels and you can order them right here while ordering the engine. The engine number is valid for this class of SP loco after it was transferred from the T&NO to SP's Pacific Lines around 1915, and was assigned to the SP San Francisco to San Jose commute pool. But to make this truer to the SP prototype remove the lattice-work in the window. Then I topped it off with installing a deck plate that I scrounged up from the old parts box and put it between the loco and the tender, adding more to the look. Best of all the one I received runs very well. Quiet, smooth and has good low speed control. All of which means you can wind up with a very nice model for this price range. I recommend it highly.
