"CAL SCALE SP NUMBER BOARDS cdd611"

Sorry. For SP, SSW and T&NO locomotives, both steam and diesel, these are not correct. The number boards for these engines could display 5 characters. As an example the model shown has the locomotive number 5212. If operated as an extra train the first character would be an X, so the train indicators (this is actually the correct SP term) would be displayed as X5212, requiring a fifth slot, conspicuously absent here. In addition, all of the diesel engines I've seen or ran had the train indicators at the top front of the cab or top of the nose for high hood units, like geeps and accessible from within the cab. This is also true for latter SP AC class steam engines. The exceptions are car body units, like EMD E and F units or ALco PA units, with them on the nose of the engine, some switch engines and the GS class steam engines which had them mounted further back on the boiler. On other classes of steam engines the train indicators were usually mounted just in front of the smoke stack or right behind. I’m surprised Cal Scale missed the mark on this one as they are usually spot on for detail parts. I'm not saying don't buy them, just that they are not SP prototypical. So for the purpose as advertised I can't recommend them.
