M8/M20 Tank
Italeri M8/M20 Tank
$30.79
A bit pricey and interior detail is odd, but it's still a solid and fun kit.

I bought this for a 28mm sci-fi conversion project. The kit was pretty easy to build, even with my conversion parts, and looks great - all parts fit together nicely. My only real complaint might be that theoretically 1/56 scale is close to the same scale used for 28mm wargaming figures, but the vehicle somehow looks and feels a bit too small for that scale, and the sculpting for the internal components doesn't help much: they're designed with a sort of forced perspective to make them look a little deeper than the really are, but there's no way that complete 28mm drivers and passengers would fit comfortably or safely into the interior of this vehicle - indeed, the included driver figure is just most of a legless and armless torso glued down directly onto the driver's seat at the waist, and his head still peaks over the top of the open hatch! A little of my conversion work dropped the floor a bit lower so that the passenger compartment is now waist-high to any figures I would put in the back, but those front seats would be a lost cause. Fortunately, this is just a small complaint if you aren't putting any passengers or cargo inside the vehicle, or you are installing the turret over the passenger compartment - the limbless torso of the driver is barely visible once the vehicle is assembled. The model looks great overall, and handled the conversions I added to it quite quickly and easily. External detail is pretty good, there was no flash, parts fit together as designed. I've never had any complaints that I can recall about Italeri's models going back to the '80s: they seem to have always been quite good and a pleasure to work with, and this one is no exception. I'd rate it an easy model to build according to the instructions, which were easy to follow, a great kit for beginners with a little guidance, and I'm sure experienced modelers will find it a breeze to build. I'm not 100% sure about the odd 1/56 scale, and kinda wish it had been scaled up to 1/48 instead (which seems like a better match for 28mm heroic figures), I wish it had a more accurate interior, and the price seems a bit steep for what we get in the kit (it's not much bigger than some excellent 1/72 scale vehicles at half the price!), but on the whole, it's a nice enough model kit for an interesting little vehicle.
