Atlas Middlesex Manufacturing

This is essentially a large, rectangular building with an elevator shaft at one end and a stairwell in the middle of one side. Its very basicness makes it eminently suitable for modification. There was, amazingly, no flash on any piece. There were a few nubs, though. The detail is good, except for the loading dock, which I didn't use anyway. Likewise the stairs and railings are ill-proportioned and bulky. I replaced those with my own. The roof is very plain and deserves some added texture like sandpaper of simulated tar paper. I sprayed mine with texture paint and then painted it. The instructions are average, and like all instructions they expect you to build the model unpainted. Always paint first! I primed the walls and sponge painted them with brick red, adding various highlights with paint and Tamiya weathering powders. Then I sealed the walls and added mortar by painting on a thin solution of white OIL based paint and thinner. I air-brushed the windows and doors and sponged on some weathering colors. Glue the windows into the walls, add the acetate then glue it all together. I modified mine by cutting some loading doors in a wall and filling in some of the windows on the bottom floor. Note that there are three different kinds of windows, all the same size. A few with 4 panes, and the rest divided about equally between 12 and 16 panes. I didn't even realize this when I was building the kit until it was too late! Ultimately I am quite happy with this building as it looks great and fits exactly where I needed it to go. Don't be put off by the TERRIBLE paint job shown in the item listing! I know, let's just paint the whole thing red! It'll look great!
