Fiber optic strand used to illuminate the scanner of my 1:18 scale Black Beauty Die Cast. I drilled out the vertical central column of the scanner and inserted the FO strand. A 3mm green LED inside the trunk provides the light. And by leaving the strand a couple of mm's long the scanner floats.

A hole drilled into the bulb of a 3mm LED and fiber optic strand inserted (secured with super glue) moves the light to the end of the strand when energized.

Fiber optic strand inserted through Green Hornet's scanner then glued into the hole drilled into a 3mm LED illuminates the scanner!
