I was building a 1/32nd scale diorama for my brother and needed a Jeep for it. The New-Ray Jeep diecast toy was the only one I could find in that scale; everything else was 1/35, which would've looked odd because of the distinct size difference.

This is a toy, so it requires a bit of modification. The front axle needs to be moved forward 1/8 inch. I separated the cowl and windshield, which were molded together, so I could lay the windshield flat. The toy comes with street car tires. I cast new military style tires.

I left the cover for the pull-back mechanism installed between the two front seats, but covered it with tissue and painted it khaki. I filed off the tie-down handles on the sides and rear quarters and replaced them with wire.

The New-Ray Jeep goes well with U.S. Marines figures from Airfix and an OzMods Yokosuka type 11 Ohka. I call this diorama of U.S. Marines discovering an Ohka on Okinawa: "Hey boys, get a load of this!"
