Base is made from Sculpey. Pressed various sized marbles and wiggled them around to make craters .I know white is preferable for heat dissipation of spacecraft surfaces, but silver is more dramatic. Working on a 2nd which will be white in critical areas.

Another angle. Note astronaut at landing-strut foot. It may be a little off scale to the model, but even the 1950s artwork seems to be unclear on that account.

I drilled holes in the crew compartment and inserted small acrylic balls as windows. The top half is lit with a red LED (to not interfere with dark-adapted sight); the bottom is lit with white. Still need to add magnets so top half stays secure.
