Tortoise machines replaced the ugly surface activators. The torts could not be installed under the center of the track due to bracing under the layout. Left turnout has the throw bar extended with .025" wire to the left side. Right turnout uses the right side of the throw bar.

To control two yard turnouts, I made a box with two DPDT toggles. The small toggle lower left powers a latching relay. Button upper right releases the power. The dwarf LED signal indicates power is on and the direction of the mainline entry to the yard. A modest effort that might give you ideas.
