Another exquisite set from Tamiya. This set has fine detail and is reasonably priced. I appreciate the exercise in assembly and painting. Hopefully I will be able to assemble correctly this year

Here, the crew practices with a Tamiya mortar. The mortar on our right is from a dubious save money deal I found. That mortar is larger than its equivalent. and they should be the same size. Swapping parts from different manufacturers does not always work. The Tamiya set has detail.

The Tamiya mortar base plate has structure to help it stay in place. My base plate is an aftermarket mortar set. It was 69 cents in the day. I paid $5.50 each for 5. the rounds are carried by the man with the box on his back. I found a picture in Pinterest of mortar crew.

That base plate is not supposed to be smooth. The rack for the tube seemed to be fairly close to correct. I fabricated some mortar round boxes by cutting thin styrene strips from material supplied by Hobbylinc.
