"A great entry into mid-power rocketry"
m10.gmc
I bought this rocket as the first of mine to fly on a 29mm motor. It was a treat to build, becoming familiar with some of the considerations of building a higher-power rocket, and a much bigger one, than I ever had. It might be E2X by mid-power standards but it still requires a lot of patience and attention. I assembled it with lots of CA glue for the plastics and a combination of epoxy and Gorilla Glue on the fins, which worked very nicely, although it was a bit heavy. I had to shave some plastic off the fins to fit them into the slots. I can't say that the looks are particularly standout among my collection, but it's certainly not ugly once finished and looks great in the sky. It is a bit slow to lift off on an Estes F-15, but on an Aerotech composite with a higher initial thrust it practically teleported right off. Being a little heavy, I found it necessary to use a shorter delay charge so that it wouldn't tip over before ejection. With the payload section, this is a rocket that gives a flexibility to the first-time mid-power rocketeer, and the plastic fins make it forgiving as well. I enjoyed this rocket immensely.

I applaud Estes new line of black powder PS II kits. They are more economical and fly great. I put mine together in a single evening and flew it twice the next morning.

I built and launched two Ascendors with the same disastrous result—-Not only did the parachute fail to deploy but the nose cone stayed in place. Consequently both came screaming in for high speed crashes. I was flying with nearby horse pastures and so, was relieved no one was hit. I’m not an inexperienced rocket builder but don’t know why two builds in a row failed so catastrophically. But I’ll never build another for sure.

This is a nice rocket for a quick build: Assemble tonight, launch tomorrow morning. Sometimes as a modeler you like to spend hours upon hours gluing, sanding, shaping, masking, spray painting, etc. Sometimes you just want a quick build to launch right away. If so, this kit is for you. Replaced the paper shock cord anchor with a Kevlar cord attached to the motor mount. Keep on rock(ateer)in'.
