"Instructions out of order and dimensions incorrect"
gremho
Some instructions are out of order. Instructions say to install the fins prior to installing the engine mount. This is impossible due to the fins mounting into the body tube. You will need to install the engine mount prior to installing the fins. Also, the dimensions for the engine mounting disks are too close together. You will need more space between the disks to allow the roots of the fins to clear the disks. Recommend checking your assembly sequence and dry fitting the engine/fin components prior applying any glue. The rocket separates in the middle, in hind sight I would glue about 1/4 of the plug into the upper section and leave 3/4 of the plug in the lower. I have 1/2 glued upper and 1/2 slip fit lower and this allows more play that I would like. Have yet to fly this model.

"A very good reproduction of a classic"
wallyum (Ft. Thomas, KY)
While I would have preferred that Estes reissue the Phoenix Bird with the plastic fin can from the currently available Eliminator kit, the finished product looks enough like the classic that I can't really complain much. The laser-cut balsa makes the transition painless enough, even with filling the balsa grain, and I've never minded working with balsa cones. When finished, you'd be hard pressed to tell the reproduction from an original unless you got close enough to read the decals or look hard for the balsa grain. It's also a great small field bird as a bonus.
