I built this model as a memorial to my grandfathers friend Captain Walter G. Winslow U.S.N. He was one of four pilots assigned to the USS Houston CA-30, a Northampton class cruiser. The models have small bits of flash that are easily trimmed or sanded off and the parts look pretty good coming from molds that are nearly 50 years old. I used Starfighter Decals resin cockpit set and R-1340 engine for this build and they are worth the price. I used some old Scale Models International roundels and lettering sheets to create the markings for the USS Houston scout planes as they would have looked at the beginning of hostilities. I will rig the flying wires later but for now the model looks good as is. Walter Winslow was a survivor of the sinking of the Houston in the battle of the Java Sea. Along with the Houston, the HMAS Perth was also sunk while fighting an overwhelming Japanese invasion force.
