A very disappointing substitute for solvent-based
This is the third Gloss Black Primer I have tried in an attempt to get away from solvents, and it's the third that was disappointing. I can say without a doubt that it will not be replacing my lacquer-based gloss black as an undercoat for metallics. I started by attempting to airbrush it right out of the jar, as the instructions indicated should be possible. Well, I used a .5mm needle-nozzle combo, and it started spitting the paint out to the point where you could readily see every tiny particle of paint, at which point I started to lay it on heavy, to get full coverage, and hopefully a decent shine. I let the spoon dry overnight, and when I came back to it, there was very little of the original shine of the wet product left. I thought perhaps it needed another coat and proceeded to give it one. Did it improve the gloss? Very little, in fact, I did better by simply buffing it with a cotton pad, but it still didn't shine like my lacquers. Very disappointing! I wonder when the acrylic people are going to find the holy grail, that being a complete replacement for solvents? Probably not in my lifetime.
