Well-engineered Representation of the 1967 Fastback
The 1967 Mustang GT Fastback by AMT is a great kit. The parts fit well, the body molding is crisp, and the parts have excellent detail. The kit has a well-done 289 engine and a multi-piece interior. It is similar to the AMT 1967 GT-350 kit, as only the body and interior console differ. Overall, it is a well-engineered kit with crisp and clear detail throughout. The interior assembly includes two-piece seats, separate door panels, and a separate center console, making detailing the interior easy. The engine and transmission are also multi-piece assemblies with a lot of detail. However, there are some things you need to be aware of with this kit. I found the assembled wheels too wide for the tires, and the front wheels stuck out too far in the fenders. To get the tires to fit correctly, I sanded almost an eighth of an inch off the front and back halves of the wheel. Then, I widened the attachment hole on the wheel backs to get them to sit better inside the fenders. The instructions say to install the firewall into the body. However, I recommend installing the firewall on the chassis instead, as doing so avoids having to modify the interior side panels when mating the body to the chassis. Finally, the decals in the kit are very lacking. The side stripes are fragile and break apart easily. The Mustang letters on the trunk panel virtually disappear because it is not opaque. I also had issues with some decals not sticking well despite applying them over gloss paint. A final clear coat was needed to seal them in place. This has been a common theme among the recent Round 2 kits I have built. Finally, it would be nice if a vented hood was an option. Many of the 1967 Mustangs had vented hoods with turn signals, and having that option would add value to the kit. While the model has these issues, it builds well and presents a well-detailed Mustang. I recommend this kit to anyone who has built at least a few models before because it requires some modeling skills. Otherwise, it builds into an excellent model.
Rewarding Build
This is a pretty fun kit to build with very few issues encountered, some flash but no big deal. Unfortunately the Mustang decal for the trunk lid doesn't show up on most colors. AMT supplies awesome pad printed tires but I sure wish they would make them fit the wheels snugged. I did not cut the inner trunk lid off as stated in the directions, the outer lid fits fine on top of it. Also directions state to glue rear body panel on at final assembly, I glued my panel on before paint without any issue of mating chassis and body in the final assembly. I'm not sure but it must of helped to cut about 1/4 inch of firewall off on both ends and cut the front of the door panels off flush with the dash.
A pretty decent kit.
This is generally a nice kit from AMT. It has lots of molded in details and is easy to detail further. The flash is minimal, and the parts are crisply molded. The overall fit is good with a few exceptions. The wheels don't fit the tires and need to be modified. They also sit too far inside the wheelwells, which needs attention as well. Everything else fit together quite well. The car also sits a bit high in the front when finished. My decal sheet was printed off kilter, but I still used them and it's not too noticeable. Overall though, I do recommend buying and building this kit.
Nice kit
I like this kit very much I have several that I've built in various different styles I've built one like in the box art , I've kit bashed with pro street 67 Chevelle back half, I've built one as short track racecar, and another as a mild custom show car. I like mustangs and the options are endless of how you can build this mustang in different style but me being a kit basher I get for the body when I want to build a different style mustang. I have idea for a gasser style drag car next in mind.
One Great Kit!!!
Although I usually wrestle a bit with AMT kits this one other than being a bit flash heavy has been a pure pleasure to put together. This is definitely one of those kits that has pieces that just fall into place and make for a total joy to work on. I would say that this is a great kit for both those new to glue kits as well as those who are experienced and enjoy a pleasant relaxing build. Enjoy!!!
Another Mustang!
This will be one of four Mustangs in my livery and very much a great kit. The parts all fit and the kit can be highly detailed by using kit parts or from the extras box. I painted my model with an enamel primer grey and then with an acrylic red as this seems to work quite well. I recommend this kit to anyone with some experience with 1/25 scale cars.
Fun and pretty accurate.
This was a fun kit to build. Fairly accurate and not a lot of fitment issues. I did replace the 289 with a 390 from an other kit with no major modifications needed. Other then that, the rest of the kit went together pretty easily. Easy to follow instructions and fairly accurately detailed. All in all, a fun model to build.
