An old kit that brought back memories
I got into building models by my older brother, which was over 50 years ago, and we still love building them. However, my brother has problems building complex kits due to his health. He had built the car transport kit, and had his cars on it. He bought the MPC Mack truck kit to go with it, but he messed it up so badly I tried but couldn't fix it. So I told him to pick out another truck kit and I would build it for him. He chose this kit, and I kept my y word and built it for him. I remember this kit when it first came out, and it doesn't show its age, except for a little bit of flash that needs to be removed. The instructions are excellent, and now have a paint guide that it didn't have before. The only problem I had with this kit is the tires. The inside diameter of the tires is larger that the diameter of the rims, and they kept getting loose, especially the front tires when I went to move it. Also the metal axles are too long, and as a result the rear wheels stick out too fat. It's nice of AMT to rerelease these old kits as they bring back a lot of memories. All you need to remember when building this kit is one thing-patience! You can't build it in a day, but if you take your time it is a great addition to a model truck collection.
My go-to kit....
I am a KW kind of guy so the variety of AMT KW kits gives me an ample selection of variations for many types of trucks other than OTR semi tractors. Add Revell's versions and I'm in KW heaven. I've used this kit as a starting point for oil field equipment, straight trucks, dump trucks, owner-operator trucks with huge sleepers, fire trucks. and I love to scratch build heavy duty semi wreckers. In addition to all that this kit is an excellent source of spare parts for other trucks I build. I've solved the problem of assembling the mirrors and what I believe are the flimsiest hood mounts in a model truck kit. I especially like the fuel tanks because careful use of a Dremel to get rid of the raised lines that are there you can make fuel tank straps from thin strips of plastic...painted flat black, add some 1:1 automotive chrome striping tape, and you've got a very realistic looking diesel fuel holder. They can also be made longer or shorter, as needs arise. I never not have at least two of these kits in my stash at any given time.
Detailed older kit that is great to assemble.
I built this kit in the 1980's with the same box art so I don't know if the current issue is the same or retooled. This was my first semi truck model and learned a lot about truck parts because this model was so detailed. Remember to test fit the wheels while the axles are gluing in place to ensure all 10 wheels make contact with the surface. The two chrome side mirrors are a challenge due to the multiple small chrome struts. The rear wheels are attached to the axle with a metal rod that is too long so there is some play side to side. Try not to remove the wheels once they are attached to the metal rod or else the hole will not be snug anymore and slide off the metal rod. Overall a great kit to build.
Very enjoyable build, trouble free
One of the better truck kits I've built. Lots of parts and they're all pretty clean and fit well. Nicely detailed but adding your own will only make it better. I used an aftermarket tire set and the finished truck is one if my best efforts to date.
I love these old KW's
I just started on this one and Im loving it,plenty of chrome even for the engine,I looked thru the parts and there will be some trimming but I don't have a problem with it theres a lot less than some Ive built.Ill be posting pics when Im done with it
KENWORTH W925 SEMI TRUCK
Built this kit with my brother in 1972. Paired it with a reefer. WATKINS decals. Dad was a truck driver at the time, so he was our tech advisor. We all had fun building the rig.
KW 925
Typical amt kit. Really no fit issues to worry about. Little bit of flash but otherwise straightforward assembly. Had to cut axles to proper length.
Kennworth w925

This is the first Kit I built 40 some years ago and is still one of my favorites today. One of AMT's best kits ever!
