Sturdy and reliable, but not compatible with Custom Line
I bought this to cut a passing siding into a long spur. I had a Custom Line switch so I wanted another one to mate to it but at the time, everyone was out of LH custom line switches. So I bought a Snap Switch instead. When I got it I discovered that the radius of Custom Line and Snap Switches are not identical and they do not match up turnout to turnout. (Apparently Snap Switches are #4 but Custom Line are about 4.5.) But that was my fault as I'm sure if I had checked around I would have learned that. Anyway, I was able to dig out an old (like, 45 years old) Snap switch and mate it to the new one and they work fine. Fortunately when mated the distance between the two tracks is the same as that of the custom line switches at the other end of the siding. So, about the switch itself. Snap switches are bulkier than Custom line so in appearance they are less realistic. However they are much sturdier and better built. I have had no problems with the new one electrically or mechanically. The manual switch machine comes off easily without cutting and it is easily adapted to ground throws or under-table machines. So if you can get past the appearance, and don't need it to mate to a Custom Line switch, Snap switches are fine.
Always a winner.
I've used this product numerous times over the years and it keeps working no matter where. It's just an old reliable product that keeps working..can be used as is or with any Atlas brand accuator.
