Great diner
By: suzzie
As I always start my model builds- First-I paint on the spines and then I cut apart the pieces and touch up as needed. I use a toothpick to clean off any excess paint and remove paint off all the joints and all my glue lines. The instructions said to put the back kitchen roof under the diner roof, but you glue the diner roof on way before they tell you the put the edge under that roof- I clipped the edges but was still unable to get the kitchen roof under the diner roof. Even so, I still think this is a great addition to our platform. I do not put curtains on the windows as we are putting lights in all of our buildings and I do not want to block the light. I always change the names of my buildings to reflect businesses in our area. Instructions also tell you to wash the pieces to remove oils and hand prints before you paint them- that was a new instruction for me. Very nice clean lines.
Great Project
Outstanding City-Classics produce; after opening the kit to inspect, there was very little molding flash; all the parts were straight and accounted. The directions were clear and easy to follow, but this project required a little skill to construct, the sidewalls, stairs, and signage took some time to line-up and fit perfectly. This kit looks much better then it appears on the website and package; it is a nicely detailed building and took paint well. Overall great project and I recommend this kit to everyone and for any scenery.
Rt 22 Diner Review
A versatile kit, providing many options for construction. The kitchen can be located on either side, there are many options for mounting the signage, and many various signs to use, along with blinds for the windows. Drawback was the butt joints need to carefully constructed to ensure they are square. The kitchen roof requires trimming (stated in the instructions which are excellent, providing painting and finishing tips galore). Easily constructed, this kit allows you to be creative.
Great little diner - BUT........
Once I finally got this figured out - it is a great looking little diner. The only real problem is they used beveled edges (especially on the added on kitchen part) which makes it hard to put the wall together evenly. I also had to cut the kitchen roof down to size - it is way bigger then what the space allows for. Apart from it is worth the effort.
Practice, Practice, Parctice
This model takes a bit of patients and pre-planning to assemble. Paint did not take well to it but again with trial and error it goes well. I would recommend this product to a knowledgeable modler.
