Reviews : HobbyBoss A-10 Thunderbolt II

This was my first HobbyBoss kit and it is the reason I keep buying their products. None of the subsequent kits I have purchased has quite lived up to this one, but they have all been enjoyable. The fit was excellent. Instructions and decals were good and no flash was present. I purchased an aftermarket ejection seat before I even saw the kit and I could have saved my money. The cockpit detail was excellent and the fit was flawless. The kit includes a beautifully detailed GAU-8 30mm Gatling gun, which is invisible because open access doors were not an option. Of course, I should have scratchbuilt a simple cart to display the gun on, but I did not. It's nice to know it's there, though. Control surfaces are posable and well detailed. The array of ordnance included is eye-opening. There is far more here than the aircraft can carry, but it opens up all sorts of options. The decals for the ordnance are nicely printed and add immeasurably. Both engine nacelles can be posed open. The engines within, however, are only very simply detailed. Still, like the included gun, possibilities are opened for scratch builders. I scratchbuilt a ladder to show off the open engine cover. HobbyBoss has even included a nice set of chocks. This was the best aircraft kit I have built yet, partly because everything fit so well, but also because this is my favorite aircraft.

Best A-10 kit out there I think. Goes together great and builds into a great looking Hog right out of the box.

Best 1/48th scale A-10 out there. Awesome plane and this is the best kit for it.
