California Mission San Miguel Arcangel

This is the San Miguel Arcangel Missions of California Educational Project. Parental Supervision is Recommended.:

San Miguel Arcangel, founded by Father Fermin de Lasuen on July 25, 1797, is the 16th mission and contains some of the best-preserved Indian murals in California - completed under the direction of Spanish painter Esteban Munros. San Miguel also has a variety of arch shapes and sizes, unique among existing mission structures. The Salinan Indians eagerly awaited the establishment of this mission. They were skilled at making roof tiles, which were sold or traded to other missions. After secularization the mission was used as a saloon, dance hall and private living quarters. In 1878 Father Philip Farrelly became its pastor, and San Miguel Arcangel returned to the Franciscan Order in 1928.:
