This 1/72 scale kit is from a Polish model company called IBG Models. The
pros of this kit are as follows: Very solid painting and well detailed
illustrations. I also like how the illustrations are in color and involving
many views of the aircraft. The building process was good too even though I
lost one of the gun sights.
The cons of this kit are as follows: You only have one paint scheme and
that is PZL P.23 Karas from the Polish Air Force College, September 1939. I
found that installing the underside gun position of the aircraft was a bit
of a challenge because it left a big gap in between the wings and the
fuselage. To compensate this minor glitch, I used some spackle in a tube to
correct this problem.
The biggest complaint I have with this kit are the decals themselves. With
the exception of the national insignia decals, most of them folded over to
the point there’s nothing you can do about them! They all involved the left
side of the aircraft and the rudder. I had to make 4 copies of the back
page of the instructions to replace the ruined decals. I then cut out
specific images for replacement decals. Next I then used various methods of
gluing. First I tried to use modge podge, but it made it worse because it
wiped off the wording of the decals. Then I used clear tape and it was
slightly better. Finally I used regular glue and it worked as well it could’ve
been.
In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 3.5-4 stars out of 5. Bottom
line IBG Models, you should include either better decal paper, spare decals,
or make the tail decals into one big decal because these are some of the
worst decals I’ve seen in a while!
