"Perfect first wooden boat kit"
jimmbbo
Midwest's Dinghy is a great first wooden boat kit that allows the modeler to develop skills to move on to more advanced boat models. For a beginner with basic tool handling skills, this kit can be completed in about 15 hours. The kit is simple, the plans are clear and the instruction booklet is easy to follow, and completing the model provides a visually interesting display model that takes up only a small amount of space. YouTube provides helpful resources for builders with minimal skills, by searching the model name or wooden model boat building. An hour or two spent reviewing these videos can be very helpful for first time boat builders, and make the construction much easier. This kit uses very basic skills and requires minimal tools for completion. The builder will need to have small and medium Xacto knives, various sizes of rubber bands (or hobby clamps), super glue and Elmer's wood glue, and coarse, medium and fine grades of sandpaper. Painting can be done using either wood stains, clear polyurethane spray, or a paint kit available for the purpose. This kit would make a great parent/child project for a child who shows an interest in building something.
