76 Dart On Target
This is a rerelease of a 1970's model kit. As with most MPC kits there are positives and negatives. On the plus side this model comes with two complete engines, Polyglas raised white letter tires, a pair of slicks, a pair of wheel options, and a hood scoop. The decal sheet does not have any gauges but it has several stripe options including a 340 stripe and decals for the Spirit of 76 special model. On the negative side, on my model there was a bulge in the plastic on the passenger side fender that caused the chassis to be misaligned. Some sanding took care of the issue. The wheel hubs are too long to fit in the wheel wells and the front wheels when using the lower option hit the inner fender wells. Again some sanding took care of it. On my model, I used some strip styrene to make the chassis and engine bay fit better to the car body. Overall, I love these new/old kits. Have fun building yours!
MPC 76 DODGE DART
Like most MPC kits over the years you get what you need as a starting point in the box.then,it's time to put your modeling skills to work,it's part of what model is all about,it's kind of fun to fix the problems with these kits,i added posts in the rear and tabs at the front corners of the engine bay,had to scrape away plastic under the fender tops for a good engine compartment fit also modified firewall and front top edge of interior bucket, added strip of styrene to rear edge of hood, also,i really enjoy drilling out the toy like molded chrome headlights and replacing them with my own scratch built lenses&reflectors,i built my model to represent a 318ci car in testors pure gold lacquer and wet look clear top coat with side stripe option,i made a master cylinder from a sprue nub also, you have to custom fit a good deal of the parts on this kit,not for inexperienced first-time builders
A little disappointed.
Not MPC’s best effort, I think they used the old molds. Frame not very well done, exhaust & drive shaft molded into it. Hood wouldn’t fit, engine was too tall, had to alter it. Tires & wheels leave a little bit to be desired. No roll cage if building pro stock version, as I did. I finished it doing the Billy the Kid version & if you don’t look at it real close it doesn’t look too bad. If you have the time & want to put forth the effort then you can turn it into something decent. Otherwise not real pleased. Normally I like MPC kits.
No bullseye
Round 2 gives you a new box and decals. But the same model from nearly 50 years ago. The frame and body didn't line up so I had to remove the top of the engine to get the hood to fit. This isn't good. Its my third round 2 and my last. They are all poor quality..
Tough build
Parts did not fit together well and required a lot of sanding; seems like old molds. End result was good, but keep in mind the extra work. Nice decals. Not for beginners.
Great model
Great model to build can't wait to get started on it
