Nice Custom!
By: Tex Jester
I decided to do the custom version; most of what I've done is showroom stock. I had some issues, but it came out to be one of the sharpest kits I've done.
If you use a coordinating color, the stripes look GOOD, but take your time. The decals need warm/hot water to release; otherwise, you're going to wait several minutes. The nice Chevy emblem decals are pretty, but they're some 20% TOO LARGE for the chrome emblems! (I used paint and a sharpened toothpick..)
I had to relocate the engine 2-3 mm forward in order to have it fit within the firewall; this caused other issues (bottom radiator hose not matching up, driveshaft almost too short, fan up against radiator). The distributor and coil had to disappear in order to get the engine to fit.
There's 2 lower tabs on the firewall that's supposed to cover the front of the frame; I never got them to fit right; they disappeared as well.
I was going to use some Cragar style mag wheels, but the diameter of the disc brakes was too large. I don't care much for large diameter wheels, but the ones with the kit came out nice.
I don't want to say this, but someone has to!
Just about everything folks are saying about this kit is correct, and no argument from me. However, they must all have built the custom version using the big wheels and tires. I did not. I wanted mine to use the stock steelies and whitewalls. Here is where the problem comes in - the steelies are mismatched to this kit, and they absolutely do not fit! You might be able to sand the mating surfaces, but if you attempt to pressure them together as they come out of the box, prepare for at the very least, some grunting and groaning, and very sore hands, with the result being that the whitewall inserts will not sit flat in their grooves. You may also break one of them (and now you know why Revell included 5). If you do, I suggest you look in the parts box for an alternative. That's what I did, and I found the ideal replacements (probably from another Revell kit that had mismatched wheels).
Level 5 and reflects that with excellent detailing and engineering
This model is worth every nickel! This kit would be great for a beginner or intermediate modeler – because it is easy to build, logically planned and results in a gorgeous result. You can build it either custom street rod or classic stock. 153 total parts, and you will end up using all but about a dozen whichever version you choose. Decals are nice and in register, but I didn’t use any of them. They do include decals for the dash instruments. Great model and worthy of the Revell name. I only had one issue; the plastic coming out of China is just awful, and if not properly treated and prepared, the paint job will come out patchy and dull in spots. I have learned to overcome this by wet-sanding the plastic itself to a shine, and then adding thin layers with wet-sanding between coats. Laborious, but worth it. Recommended.
Excellent Kit

I've had this for some time and found some time to build it. First the instructions are well laid out. Flash was nothing to speak of, just a light sanding. I had no fit issues what so ever. The kit can be built stock or custom. Detail was great and the decals when on without a problem. I painted it Red Top and White Lower. Interior was done in a two tone of the same Red/White combo. I would recommend this kit to all builders.
Assembly - Subassembly
By: utemountain01
The subassemblies have unmatched fine detail but when putting all together the joy is lost. I had to extend the upper radiator hose. The body did not fit properly to the chassis & the frame did not align with the front bumper. It looks PERFECT in an IMPERFECT WORLD. WING IT!
One of my favorites
