Easy kit to build
What a great easy kit to build. Upon opening the box you are greeted by the iconic VW Beetle body and a load of parts trees with minimal flash, a few beautiful chrome parts trees, and some really nice tires. The instruction manual was typical Revell booklet and easy to follow. The decal sheet was simple but had the chrome trim for the side of the car which I did not use. Reviewing the instructions shows you can build a right hand steering or a left hand steering model. Preparing the body was easy to do with very, very minimal mold lines that sand off easy enough. The motor was a bit daunting for me as I am used to building American muscle V8's or straight 6's, but once it got done it was awesome, almost a model itself. All the other parts came together in sub-assembles and when you got to that point is almost put itself together. The was by far, the easiest kit I have ever put together. There was no fitment issues whatsoever and just when it seemed like you would put together another sub-assembly, you were gluing the chassis to the body and calling it done. I HIGHLY recommend this kit and I HIGHLY recommend Hobbylinc for all you modeling needs. I have never had a problem with anything I ordered and always received prompt service, quick shipping, and excellent packaging. Order at least 2 of these kits for you will have another idea for one when you are building.
You need this kit in your stash!
This is a skill level 4 kit with 131 parts. It is a straight stock build, but as with any Volkswagon, you can berserk with mods, colors and turn this into anything you want. My Uncle used to check his cow herd with a VW, and that thing was indestructible and the cows were very used to it. This model is really well-engineered and went together perfectly, and I mean perfectly. The engine was a perfect masterpiece, and went together great. The instructions with few exceptions are clear and well-illustrated. Note: the emergency brake (#47) is backwards in the instructions – the handle should point forward, not aft. The colors are also reversed. The main handle is black, while the heater controls are gunmetal. Parts (#83,84) should be amber, not red. The running boards are chrome (??), but the painted up neat. AND you can have left or right-hand drive. Neat. Here is the neatest part. The fit of the entire model is really, REALLY perfect. Even the windows drop in perfectly. There are decals for engine decoration, dash instruments and the side chrome moldings. This is my first VW, but not my last. So much fun and potential!
Outstanding Replication
This Revell model is designed and molded in the Country of Poland. I have just under 100 completed models in my hobby collection, and this is absolutely the best designed and molded model I have ever assembled. Each and every part fit without even the slightest pressure or modification. The detail is quite astounding. 47 years ago, I purchased a new 1969 VW Beetle the same color as the model I just completed. The details of this model are so close to the actual automobile, it makes you think you are looking at a real miniature version done by some weird act of Science. This is the only model I have constructed that has an actual headliner that is installed, and grab straps that hang over the door entries. If you decide to purchase this kit from Hobbylinc, and take your time, you will be totally pleased with what you have accomplished!
68 VW.
I like to build 68 year kits. My wife was born in 68. Easier to get the money and not another model passed her. This is a kit with many parts. Some flash and sink marks on the body. Mainly the front fenders. But the kit looks awesome. I bought 2 different kits on sale at hobbling and even with shipping it was cheaper than my local hobby store. Plus I did not have to drive 40 miles one way. Great deal, from a great supplier. Please keep up the good work. Now to find the time to start building. Think I will take the rear tires from the tee vee kit, lower this one, paint it 2 tone yellow and white. The wife was wearing yellow shorts the day we met way back in 86. I can see it now. Gonna be awesome. Great deal. Keep it up.
Great detail, fun kit, disappointing decals
Have had a lot of fun building this kit, fit is great detail is awesome - particularly the engine and interior. There is also some great opportunity to modify. My complaint is with the decals set, the kit is designed to have the white walls applied by decal and they simply never adhered to the rubber tires, when I tried to apply a thin layer of acrylic matte over the top the decal disintegrated. I thought this was just because of the tires but none of the decals ever set. Clearly the decals don't make or break the finished product, but would have been nice to actually have the white wall option.
Super nice kit!
I have built the Tamiya Beetle and this Revell kit and in my opinion this is the superior of the two kits. Great detail and this is the only model I've built with a separate headliner and even grab handles and the VW flower vase on the dash. There are 21 pieces alone for the engine. There was zero flash and parts fit was excellent but I did have problems with the decals. My Walthers solvaset melted one of the chrome side molding decals but that would be on me for not testing on a unused decal. However the other five side molding decals simply did not adhere and fell off the body.
Absolute Perfection!!!
I picked this kit up to do a tribute to my dear old dead granny who in her driving years would have nothing other than a bright red Volkswagen Beetle. I was pleasantly surprised to find one of the most perfectly designed kits I've ever experienced. If you're looking for a kit that will give you true modelling entertainment and pleasure this is definitely it. I'd recommend this kit for anyone of any skill level.
Outstanding quality kit.
What a great kit! My only complaints are that this is not a '68. It appears to be a '67 with bumpers/windshield wipers from a custom or California style beetle repurposed. I wanted to build mine like the mystery Beetle from the movie Bullitt. I was extremely impressed by the engineering of this kit and by the detail of the interior and motor.
fun to build my blue bug
this was my first vw bug to build and i had a wonderfull time creating the blue bug i once owned this was a very detailed kit espically putting the engine togeather which was challenging but rewarding in the end overall this turned out to be one of the best kits i have ever built
all round good model, not too challenging

this was my 3rd model and i thought it was very accurate in the sense the the engine was period correct and had all the right gear on it, ( single carb, fan hoses and everything else) being a vw guy i couldnt find much that wasnt original.
Very nice looking kit!
Just got this kit home. Opened the box and it looks fantastic! Detail is impeccable, lines are crisp, and can't find even a hint of flash! This kit is going to be a pleasure to build.
Another good build
Nice clean build. No molding flash. Parts fit with very little twisting. Good detail interior and engine. Would have liked it better if the trunk had some detail thought it would open.
Very fine kit
This is a very well made kit. The fit and ease of assembly is amazing. Builds into an accurate and completely correct model.
Great model
I loved making this model! The parts were right on the money! An it had awesome engine detail!
