Not bad for what it is!
This is an older kit that is pretty basic. Since it's a basic kit, it's an easy build that doesn't take too long. There isn't a lot of detail but if detail is what you're looking for, buy a higher end kit and don't bash this one. For under $20 you can't go wrong. This kit has raised panel lines with recessed panel lines around the rudder, ailerons and elevators. There was hardly any flashing and the pieces fit pretty good. I used minimal putty in a few areas to fill seams. The landing gear is pretty fragile so be careful after gluing them on. It might be best if the landing gear was glued on towards the end of the build. The canopy pieces were a tricky fit and its' best displayed in the open configuration. The model itself is old and has been reissued over the years to where it is today. My only negative comment would be the painting and decal instructions. Basic info on color which isn't much help so I did some research to use for the color scheme. I used Tamiya acrylic paints overall. White XF-2. Brown XF-52 + XF49 (5:1). Green XF-62 + XF-61 (5:1). The decal instructions are for an older issue of this model and don't match the decals in the kit. You can chose between the box art or the pictures on the sides of the box for decaling. I would recommend this kit for anyone looking for that easy build from the novice to the expert. Not bad for what it is.
Warning
This is a no frills kit if there ever were one. There is no cockpit, no pilot, and the canopy is made up of an uneccessarily tiny three pieces (it should have been two small pieces or one simple piece. In fact, I bought two of these spitfires and for the second one, i used two extra clear canopy pieces from another set). The model contains no weaponary/drop tanks for the undercarriage, nor does it have any guns protruding from the front of the wings. Finally, the decal set does NOT match up with the instructions on the back page of the directions! The letter markings for the plane that appear on the decal set ARE NOT the same letters that appear on the diagram on the instructions. Nor do the numbers next to the decals correspond with the numbers on the instructions. This is a very simplistic, and is the poorest kit that I've purchased and put together so far.
You Get What you Pay For
I agree with the others that said this is a basic first model Spitfire. It is exactly that. Basic in all regards. That it only has 30 some odd parts immediately told me it wasnt much for detail. I bought it just to pass a couple of days. And that it did including paint. It is a shame that such a fantastic plane could be minimalized. I just have to say that most of the critical parts that needed good fit didnt. I spent a lot of needless time trying to improve fit to no avail. It is the age old saying, You get what you pay for. I would only recommend this kit to the beginner that doesnt need detail. It is a very simple and quick build. For the experienced builder, put a few more dollars in and get a Tamiya or better kit. Its to beautiful of a War Hero to be replicated with such a cheap representation.
Decent First Kit
This was my first kit after a 20 + year absence from the hobby. The kit is basic with raised panel lines. My expectations were low, not because of the kit but because I had very little confidence in my building skills. The instructions are simple and the kit went together well. there was some flash and sink marks I had to take care of. the wing-body join seem required a lot off putty. After priming, I used Testors MM paints. This kit was also the first time I had ever used an airbrush. I did the camouflage free-hand. For my first model in years, I was very pleased with the results. The decals were in register but required Solvaset to get them to settle down over the panel lines. Overall, a decent beginners kit.
No Frills
This is a simple model, with very little challenge, no guns, bombs, drop tanks or pilot. It was enjoyable but went together far too quickly, I had it finished in no time. The decals in my set did not match the ones listed in the manual so I had to go by eye, which wasn't difficult as there was very little in the way of decals to start with, most sets have Prop blade stickers, undercarriage decals and smaller decals like no step etc to add that extra level of detail, which this set does not have, overall value for money should be sought in another product.
Another Fine Revell Kit
My only British entry into my WWII collection as yet, although I have my eye on the pricey Avro Lancaster bomber. I have seen the Spitfire in action and it is a wonder to see. Every chance I get to see actual birds flying I take it. It will make you want to model all the more. I think Revell models are fine representations of these WWII aircraft if you do not want to spend a lot of time on detail, like cockpits. If the actual lines of the bird is what you want then these kits are for you. Most builds go together beautifully and this was one of those.
Light on the Wallet, Light on the Detail
I only gave this kit a 3 star due to the lack of detail that is well known for Revell/Monogram kits. If you are looking for detail, you won't find it in this kit. You will be constantly filling seams due to the parts not fitting properly, as well as constant sanding, clipping, and trimming due to poor molding of the kit. However, if you are looking for a relatively easy build that is not too time consuming and a small little project, then this kit is for you. If not, then go with a Tamiya kit, and you'll get your money's worth.
VERY basic, antique kit
Originally produced in 1962, this kit shows its age, and not too well. It is accurate in outline and the fit is adequate, but the kit suffers from lack of the detail for which Monogram became an industry leader twenty years later, and is representative of a time when models were more toys than miniatures of the real thing. A quick, simple build appropriate for a first model kit, but there are other kits that better represent the famous hero of the Battle of Britain, if at a slightly higher price.
Marginally ok for newer modelers.
A new kit made from old molds by Revell of China. Decent cockpit detail and decals but raised panel lines and poor/flimsy landing gear attachment points. 'China' molded in raised letters on the wing that will need to be sanded off. Gun ports in wing not opened up, only some decal 'tape' included to cover the ports. Low cost and parts count may be attractive to newer modelers but experienced aircraft modelers will be better served by 1/48 scale kits from Eduard or Tamiya IMO.
Good kit

This kit is great, especially for the price. The detail level is pretty good and considering this is the typical Revell kit style this is great. Its a great weekend build and easy to get to build up into the subject. This isnt a kit that you are going to be able to super detail right out the box but I feel its a great starting point even for that. I had no fit issues and the clear parts are good. Great impulse buy kit
nice kit
So I’m a beginner and so far this kit has been really easy to build. The downside for me is that it doesn’t have many decals, second is that there is a copy right symbol on the bottom of the plane, and third is that when putting the plane body to the wings it’s a bit difficult to get it right had to sand some plastic to get it to fit. Everything is really minor and can be fixed easily. Overall this is a great kit!
A step up
As stated in the other reviews this a very simple kit to build, but I feel a couple of things should be pointed out. First this would be a great step up from a snap tight and such for any young person getting into model building. And for the older person like myself it gives me the opportunity to learn some techniques I see other builders doing on you tube and such. With that said I think this is a good kit for anyone.
Great old-school kit
I've built this kit many times over the years. I still enjoy building these old Revell kits. They aren't perfect, they need some putty, but they're cheap and fun. This kit doesn't really have a wheels-up option or a pilot, but I used a pilot from the parts bin. I'm sure I'll build it again once or twice more before my building days are over.
Good but not great
This kit did pretty well overall but it has some flaws. for example, the canopy didn't fit on the fuselage properly and had some warping. Also the instructions had some colors labeled incorrectly. And you have to go off of the box to get a lot of them right. That being said it was a great set to focus on trying new painting techniques.
Revell owns the sky.
These Revell kits last down through the ages with simple instructions, easy building and more fun than you can imagine. I like to build all 1/48 Scale as they are consistent in scale and lend to lots of fun, Revell appeals to that theme time after time. I highly recommend this kit for this reason.
this kit is garbage.
I have assembled many other model kits and by far, this one is the worst. It has raised panel line detail and the parts do not fit. The lower wing was supposed to have a hole for an antenna, but there was none. This is my first revel kit, and it is so terrible I will not purchase another one.
Great Older Spitfire Kit
This was a great kit for getting back into the hobby after many years away. Everything fit well with the exception of the trailing edge of the wing/fuselage joint, which needed quite a bit of putty and sanding.
About what I expected
This would be a great kit for a kid that was not to concerned with aesthetics. That being said, there are some fits that were off and require a little extra work, so maybe adult supervision is required.
revell
this kit is simple and does not have a lot of detail but it is a fun build and is a great place to start for a novice , i would recommend this for anyone wanting to build a nice model
Supermarine Spitfire
A simple build, with good detail and ease of assembly. It produces a nice model of the famous British fighter with little cash and minimal work.
Squadron Scramble
For a basic kit, makes a fair rendition of a Spit. Not too expensive and you get more than sufficient detail. Fit and quality pretty good.
not bad
for the money this is a nice kit. it fits good. it lacks in the detail department but for 15 bucks, it delivers.
very fast, very simple.
was really easy to build, very few parts, very fast.
