GREAT GERMAN , not so great kit
By: dr.milton.soares
The German 8t half track is a beast in the WWII german army. Used in many roles , exceled in all of them.
I would just hoped tamiya would have exceled too. But is not the case. This is a old tooling kit, and comes with the expected problems. Injection marks in visible places. A few flashes in hard to correct places. And some nasty fitting pieces will give a little headache during assembly. The plastic is some pieces seems to be a little too hard, and if caution is not used some pieces may break apart. The cabin and engine compartment arre hard to align and fit properly. The decal sheet as usual is minimal , but good quality. The vinyl tracks are os average quality. This kit after assembled begs for a metal workable track.
All that said , the kit is a good buy, a half track, a AA gun , and several winter figures make this kit a eye catcher right out of box. A well executed winter camouflge will do wonders to viewers in any competition. And can be a pridefull addition to any collection.
Figures for an Anti tank Gun
I recently built the separate AA 20mm FLAK Gun and found it to be superb in detailing. The barrels are very delicate so caution has to be used in construction. Now I am in the process of building the crew figures to adapt them to be used around the Tamiya 7.5cm AT Gun in a Winter setting along with a prime mover vehicle. The figures are straight forward as the pieces aren't complex at all and go together very well. As in the case I'm not modifying the figures at all as the poses are adaptable to a high degree of detail as though the firing position which is a Winter scene is receiving counter fire. The set of the figures was at one time sold separately and I had an opportunity to purchase two complete sets which will afford me a better diorama as some of the figures might be slightly modified and there will be extra personal gear and weapons as well. I would highly recommend the entire kit or the gun or figures.
Good classic Tamiya

I built this model decades ago and after building it again, it renewed my appreciation for the Tamiya brand. This can be a centerpiece of a winter diorama. The AA gun mechanics are good, the figures are a fair compromise between too much action and total relaxation. The gunner and loaders look to be waiting for the enemy aircraft--they are nearby, perhaps having already attacked once. The number of pieces is satisfying for the casual hobbyist, and the one way fit cuts down on errors. The one exception to thoughtful connection points is the ill-fitting hood, which just doesn't sit right. You can cut off the tabs which attach to the frame, which is what the directions want you to do, but this still leaves an unsatisfying fit. Was the hood from a salvage yard? You can add filler, or leave a gap, but after all the good engineering, the hood is a prankster to an otherwise very satisfying build.
A very nice kit
I really enjoyed building this kit. The detail is very good and there are numerous possibilities for positioning the model such as in firing position, transport mode, cab open or closed. The tracks have a little to be desired as they are rubber and lacking in some detail, however the overall kit is very good. The provided figures contribute to a very nice support scene and can be a really good compliment if you take your time with painting. The guns provide a good level of detail and are well done.

This plastic WWII half track model is incredibly detailed and realistic. It's versatility in real life allows this machine to be displayed in any environment portrayed in a diorama. For this price, I was amazed by the quality and detail of the build. The figures included add to the authenticity, and the option of having the sides up or down while being able to chose the direction the guns point allows this kit to adapt to any diorama scene it is placed. Even by itself, this halftrack looks great.
Good quality kit with some flaws...

The detail on this kit is nice, and the quad 20MM is very good. The figures are also good. But, since this kit was built by Tamiya to be motorized back in the 1970's the tracks are rubberized with no detail on the inside. Eduard makes a great PE set for this vehicle that includes thin shields for the quad. I also bought Modelkasten tracks for it, but if you're going to put this in a diorama and put enough mud/dirt on the tracks the kit tracks will be ok.
A Fun kit that is very adaptive

I bought this kit and the 88mm flak trailer and it's so cool that they are compatible with each other. This kit did take some time, and was finicky at some points like mounting the chassis to the body, but the AA gun can move and the half-track itself it just a sweet Vehical. This kit is perfect for kit bashing since it's kinda plan at first. It's a perfect start to add various parts and additions
Oldie but a goodie from Tamiya

The Tamiya brand means quality even in 1975 era kits. This one is no exception and the main challenge is the delicate assembly of the 20mm quad guns. The figures are OK and appropriate for the model in winter camo. Thislimits the varietyof paint schemes for the half-track but it is still a great value at $28.00 and builds into a great model.
Cool

This German Track complete with crew and anti aircraft guns was a pleasure to build and once I gave it a coat of winter paint it seemed to come to life and fit right in with my other vehicles. A little tricky to get the parts to match but it was worth the effort. Tamiya does a great job making the track look authentic.
Nice kit for the price

This is an old Tamiya kit that looks good when fully completed. The areas where I was disappointed was the quality of the figures, and the fit of the engine cover parts which I thought could have been better. Overall, I would recommend this kit simply for the value, you don't find many kits this nice at that price.

In my opinion this kit is outstanding, you have to be careful and read the instructions. Which I might add are very good. The flak weapon is realistic. The troops also are realistic, No way will you go wrong with this purchase. I highly recommend this kit for anyone making a winter diorama . John dy.
Really enjoyed this kit and the figures

This is a great kit. The 'walls' on the back can be placed in the up or down position and are well detailed. The figures with this kit are some of my favorite included in any Tamiya kit. The winter uniforms look just great and the poses complement the gun very well.
LOVED THIS BUILD!!!
What a great build. Everything went together great. The gun assembly was fantastic and looks great. I messed around with hobby snow. Check out my pics, I think it looks good. I highly recommend this vehicle for the WWII builder. Very authentic.
