A little disappointed
First the pros: The molding is crisp, the detail is excellent, and the kit offers a choice of canopies to make a variety of Mk I Spitfires. The decal options include seat straps to augment the nicely detailed cockpit interior. There is no flash, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.
But then the cons: The fit is less than perfect, causing some frustration when the fuselage and wings refused to join together and ended up ruining the distinctive v-shape of the Spitfire's profile. The fuselage itself seems squashed, slightly taller and narrower than it should be, and the landing gear look like stilts. The decals look good enough on the sheet, but turned out to be a bit thick and difficult to work with.
For the price, I expected more, and I was really looking forward to building this kit. However, the new Airfix Spit provides the same detail and more options for half the price -- plus the consolation that, no matter how frustrating the build might be, you haven't spent more than the kit's worth.
