Works well however very over priced.
Don't get me wrong this product works great and can be used with almost every acrylic. However it is way too expensive for what it is. A 2 to 1 ration water to isopropyl alcohol with a mil of acrylic retarder and (optionally) a mil of flow improver per 60oz batch works exactly the same. A lot of the time more retarder has to be added even when using this product anyway so something good to have on hand. I use Windsor and Newton but Hobbylinc usually has Vallejo as well which is essentially the same thing and works well. Pick your favorite flow improver I use Liquitex because I randomly found it in a shop, but any brand will work. 1 bottle each of flow improver and acrylic retarder will last what seems like forever making its unit cost excellent.
Great Paints; keep the brand thinners around to avoid paint chemistry disasters-!!
Tamiya paints are fantastic to work with; and I work with MANY paint brands in my hobby (some are vintage, but excellent-), and there's nothing worse than opening up a favorite color...and finding a jar of paint mud in the bottom. Also, one day you may have to thin colors to make a wash or to mix/airbrush a bottle paint: using any old thinner...can spell DISASTER. Unless you have a degree in Chemistry (and research on specific paint formulas-) it's easier to have enough of the EXACT thinner for your paint(s) around...especially BEFORE you need them. An aside: as long as you use a paint brand...keep some of the same brand thinner around (ASK me how I know-).
The Absolute Best For Tamiya Acrylics
By: Tommy
This is the best thinner possible for Tamiya acrylic paints. There is simply no better option. Yes, mineral spirits also work, but not as well. Using a 0.1mm airbrush tip, the default Tamiya ratio of 2 parts paint for 1 part thinner (this thinner) is perfect. There is no other word for it. It never clogged, sprays smoothly with no spitting, and doesn't run. Of course, I am building up light coats, but even then it is still amazing.
My only gripe is how expensive it is compared to alternatives. Thankfully, one bottle of this can mix you 34 cups of 3/4 Tamiya paint at default ratio. That should be more than enough.
It works
By: Matt M.
I use this thinner a lot for airbrushing acrylic paints of course It works good with the Model master acrylics as well as Tamiya paints and I've even thinned down acrylic crafting paints and added a touch of clear coat into the paint mixture for a nice durable finish that don't scratch off I recommend this thinner for airbrushing it gives your paints a nice even smooth surface that you'll want you can't go wrong with this thinner and it don't fumigate the house as bad like rubbing alcohol does no more using that I'll stick with this instead for now on no problems .
Tamiya acrylic/poly thinner X20A
By: erwinm4550
While X20A does what it's supposed to do very well, using it for thinning and airbrush cleaning is an expensive proposition. I found a home brew recipe on the internet that is easy to concoct, is much less expensive, and (for me, at least) works just as well. I'll be using the home mix for cleaning my airbrush and the X20A exclusively for thinning, but when I finish this bottle I'll go to the home made mix for both cleaning and as a thinner.
PRO: Works very well. CON: Too pricey. I recommend it if you want to Tamiya products exclusively.
Excellent thinner for all acrylics.
By: Dan S
It's the only thinner I use for my airbrushing. I start at 1-1 plus or minus for most of my Tamiya acrylics and it always seems to hold true. Also use it on about a 1-4 to 1-3 ratio (thinner to paint) to get the so-called 'Air' products from Vallejo, etc. to flow and mix just fine. I don't tediously measure or count drops, I just eyeball it and get it close. There's no reason for me to try anything else. Great, effective product, decent price, and a good size container that fits on the hobby shelf. Exclusively used and highly recommended.
Better than plain alcohol by miles
By: sad0676
When I first started using Tamiya acrylics I wasn't too thrilled, mainly because I was an idiot and tried to thin them with straight IPA, and then a homebrew concoction that I found on some website. Tip drying, bad finish, you name it. I finally broke down and bought this stuff, and the difference was like night and day. No clogging or drying on the needle, and the paint went on like silk. I could complain about the price, but it lasts seemingly forever.
Perfect for Tamiya Paints
By: Hulksmasher123
This was literally formulated by chemists to work well with Tamiya acrylics and it does. It's not pricey at all considering how much thinned paint is actually used when airbrushing. Having around 3-4 bottles of this stuff should let you thin the entire range of Tamiya gloss acrylics and a good amount of the flat colors, too.
It sprays perfectly smooth with a 1:1 ratio in my Iwata Revolution CR. I use 12 psi.
Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Paint Thinner
By: mooniemac2000
A lot of people think that when airbrushing, there is actually a true ratio of paint to thinner. This is not correct. You thin paint to the consistency that you want. Anyway, this thinner is useful because it can also thin paints along the Model Master acrylic paint line. Tamiya acrylics are easy to handle and use, so if you are using these paints, this product is essential.
Can't Live Without
By: snod
This is the best cleaner I have used yet. I just can't paint without it. Pros- I love Tamiya paints and us them when ever I can. There cleaner is the best. I even us it on my Testors paints. Cons- none. It might be a little high in price, but saves a lot in replacing paint brushes, paint guns and parts.
Work as it says
By: yzy_jack_C
This thinner is more legit than most other thinner out there. When buying a thinner, need to be careful that it only applies to water-based paint, not oil-based paint. When mixing, you need to make sure the ratio is right. Usually, I use a 2:1 paint-to-thinner ratio to get the appropriate result.
Great thinner
Highly recommend using this thinner with tamiya paints. You should always match brands for thinners and paint. You could also use isopropyl alcohol with tamiya but recommend this product as alcohols can easily dry before hitting model causing a dusting effect! Hope this helps!
Great Value Thinner for Tamiya Acrylics
By: black.xahki
Tamiya's own brand thinner works very well with their acrylic paints. A bit of retarder is mixed in with it so your thinned paint doesn't dry out too quickly or dry too fast upon application. With it's 8.5 oz/250 ml size, it'll last for quite a while as well.
Now I KNOW what this product is for...
By: emrjsales
I am new to spray painting and was getting a lot of tip clog. Once I added a little of this thinner I no longer had any issues. I would highly recommend this product. It does not change the adhesion or color of the paint, just makes it a little thinner.
Acrylic Paint THINNER
By: pahpaw60
‘I put this C€@£ on everything’ is the phrase I use when referring to Tamiya 81040.
Weather you’re brushing or airbrushing Mission Models, HATAKA, AK 3rd Generation or Tamiya acrylic without affecting the paint’s properties this is IT.
Thinner for airbrushing
A great tip is to use this thinner with a new bottle of Tamiya paint. Open the paint and fill the bottle the rest of the way with this thinner. Now it is perfectly thinned for airbrushing. You can pour it directly from the bottle into your airbrush.
Great but small
This is the perfect thinner for airbrushing and brush painting, I just wish the bottle was larger. 8.5 oz is a very small bottle, but for the price it is an okay buy. Might go for the Mr.Color 400ml thinner next, just due to the larger sized bottle.
Good stuff
By: hughes1945
I use it to clean brushes and thin paint, If the paint hasn't dried, I use it carefully to clean up my messy spots. I would recommend the 8.5 oz container, simply because if you do a lot of detailing, you would get more for the money.
Dependable and Predictable
By: botomkie
I have used, and continue to use this acrylic thinner as my “go to†thinner for all acrylic paints, whether for Tamiya or some other brand. It’s a product I can always count on for thinning, and occasionally for cleaning as well.
Good stuff
A little pricey but it works very good and is more convenient than mixing your own home brew. Although not stated anywhere, I believe it has flow improver and retarder already in it. Paint flows out nice and smooth using this thinner.
Great thinner
Great paint thinner made especially for Tamiya paints. I brush paint most of my models, and this allows the paint to flow nicely and create a great finish. I would highly recommend this to anyone who paints with Tamiya paints.
Thinner
By: vonmvr
This is simply the best buy for the money....I always keep a full one as back up This works so well for it's intended purpose, as well as paint brush cleaning and air brush cleaning as well...Quality stands out compared to....
Excellent Thinner
Nothing like it for dealing with Tamiya acrylic paints.. does help eliminate some dry tipping keeps that paint at a nice milky consistency for work airbrushing Recommended tamiya painters specially airbrushing use.
Tamiya Excellence
By: connormac107
Excellent thinner for acrylics. Far superior to using water to thin your paints, but, like with most things, it comes at a cost. I believe most people would say that this product is well worth the money!
Tamiya Acrylic Thinner
A very good product. I use it mainly as a cleaner for my airbrush after spraying acrylics (any brand).
As a thinner, I've only used it with Tamiya acrylics and have had excellent results.
Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner
By: mooniemac2000
Very useful product. It has multiple purposes. However, one con with acrylics in general is that they dry fast. Modelers usually apply a retarder to these thinner/paint combinations.

Awesome
By: srpullen10
It works like a charm. It does what it says it does. Makes airbrushing a lot easier and the clean up is great. Recommend this to any and everyone that uses tamiya paints. Must have
Better Acrylic Finish
A must have to airbrush acrylic paint. A 50/50 mix works well with most colors. Also helps when painting with a brush. There are more economical options but the gains are marginal.
Must have...
If you are going to do any airbrushing with the Tamiya line of acrylic paints then this thinner is a must have... Works very well with other brands of acrylic paints as well...
Tamiya Thinner
By: smokencoffee
This is a must have if working with Tamiya paints. I have used this product for over 15 years. It is good for thinning for washes, and works well if you are airbrushing.

This thinner is great for just about every project that involves using any paint. Its not only a good quality product but it also is the right price and the perfect size.
bottle looks bigger than picture
By: mindseyes (TN)
doesn't take a lot of this to thin out the tamiya paints for spraying. makes cleaning the brushes a snap. much less of a mess than the testors enamel cleaning.
Great Acrylic Product
I have used this thinner for several years and find it to be one of the best acrylic thinners that I have ever used. No problems thinning acrylics with this!
Good thinner
This Thinner really helps to thin Tamiya paints and other water based paints for airbrushing. Easy to use. Experiment and find ratios that work for you!
thinner
By: sadiecakes2019
works very well , with tamiya paints , i have not tried it with other acrylic paints yet, but expermenting with the ratio should work with other acrylics
Good
This is a must have for using Tamiya paints properly, (brush or spray). It thins the paint when a little is mixed into the jar to a manageable level.
Must have with tamiya paints
By: Clint Morris
If using tamiya acrylics you must have this for thinning. love the bottle size and shape. easy to put on shelf and no worry of tipping due to shape
Very good thinner
By: jmtolliver
I really liked using this thinner. It did the job when I was working on a pretty complex paint job on my Estes Leviathan. Will definitely buy again.
Found my must have thinner.
Great product for a great price. Being a strictly brush user I go through a lot of thinner, works well and highly recommend it for acrylic users.
The thinner to use with Tamiya acrylics
By: Salaisben
The thinner to use with tamiya acrylics. Will give you better drying results than common isopropyl alcohol from the store for a nicer paint job.
Thinner
Great product to use due to quantity that comes into the container. It is also more reliable to have a plastic container instead of a glass one.
Great Thinner
By: nathan.pullum
This does exactly what it supposed to do, you’ll only need a little at a time. Works great for thinning Tamiya paint to use in an airbrush.

Good Value for size, my favorite thinner even more so with Tamiya Paint. But you do need a really long eyedropper to get the last fe drops.
Great product
By: r9b7ent5
Great thinner, work for all acrylics for brush cleaning, i would only use for thinning Tamiya brand acrylics though for use in airbrushing
Can't go wrong with Tamiya X20A thinner
I have tried other thinners and home brews, but when Tamiya says you should use their thinner with their paint that are 100% right.
Huge

Works excellent on acrylic paint. Good savings big bottle. If you work with any acrylic paint I think you'll be happy with this product.

Tamiya thinner is the go to for thinning their paints. Little tip (fill new 23ml bottle to lip under lid for perfect airbrush mixture)
Excellent thinner for Tamiya acrylics
By: Hayden0860
I use Tamiya X-20A to thin Tamiya X-22 Clear Gloss Acrylic to a 50/50 ratio for airbrushing and to clean Tamiya Acrylics from brushes.

By: Felgenhauer98
Just like everything else Tamiya makes, this stuff is great. Not one complaint on this product. Great for thinning paints.
Big Bottle
Works like a charm... Use this stuff all the time, come in a nice big bottle too. A must have on your work table always.
Great all around thinner.
Tamiya thinner mixes well with a variety of paints. I've used it with AK, Vallejo,Mission, along with Tamiya acrylics.

I use only Tamiya paint thinners. They seem to be the best and I don't think you need as much as other thinners.
Excellent Thinner
