Turn Your Plastic Car Into A Golden Rod...
By: Howie Dewing
Ford produced their Gold Glow paint in the early '70s and Testors 1839 Inca Gold reproduces it pretty faithfully. It went on MPC's Round2 1973 Mustang beautifully, with perfect one-coat coverage and good shine even without a clearcoat. As some hobbyists know, that kit can be vexing to assemble but this paint made it worth while. I wish it had the correct Mach I stripes, but the included ones (that are black) would go well with this gold color. I aim for as much originality as I can when I put old Detroit iron together with new China plastic so I'll forego these stripes. Besides, the car looks good enough without them. I debated using Tamaya's Pure Red, but after seeing a Gold Glow Mustang in my search for candidate colors online, the debate quickly ended. Testors struck gold with this one.
Beautiful color. Peels easily.

So I rolled the dice on this Testors lacquer in several colors. Overall I have to say I'm not impressed. First issue I noticed was that the paint didn't lay down very smooth, even with a thoroughly prepped and primed surface. I used an enamel clear coat and was able to polish it to a great shine and in the end the uneven color coat wasn't noticeable. This is not an issue I've had with either Tamiya acrylic or Testors enamel spray paints. Second issue was that I applied bare metal foil over this paint and while trimming away the excess the adhesive from the foil pulled the paint up in a couple of spots requiring tedious touch up work. I can recommend but with the caution of using a clear coat for wanted shine and before applying foil.
Reliable
Testors spray paints to me works really good. Reliable to the end.Even when there is only a few shots left in the can after sitting for a long time.
Testors quality
Testors manufactures a good quality paint. It is a good value for the money.
