I have built at least 3 of these kits in its various boxings since I was a kid - and the quality of the molds has not changed. It has raised panel lines, some flash, and isnt the most accurate kit on the market. I have been fortunate enough to see the real one multiple times at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, OH - and its MASSIVE. The kit brings this impressive size home. Careful work needs to be done on spine joint. This is the most visible one in the entire kit if not carefully filled and smoothed. The kit provides options for the wingtips and cockpit windscreen to be in the subsonic or supersonic positions. In the supersonic, the wingtips are down at 45° and the windscreen is up. Either of the clear parts dont have the best fit but some filler takes care of that. I didnt bother airbrushing mine - opting to do a minimal preshade covered by a bunch of light coats of white spray paint. The kit decals are a massive improvement over the old AMT boxing - including many (but not all) of the stencils for both of the completed XB-70s. While not a beginner kit it is worth the effort and time put in. I plan on building another of them at some point to represent the second (and the one that crashed) - with its minor variations.

Very impressive model when done. Even in 1/72 this is a large model, have space for building and displaying. Understandable why it wasn't mass produced, but still a beautiful plane.
