Vulcan Double Truss Trucks w/33 Ribbed Back Wheels (Metal)

The Vulcan truck was introduced in the 1920's as another replacement for the archbar truck. The Vulcan design incorporated a pin which held the journal box in place. Removal of the pin allowed the journal box to be quickly replaced. This truck lasted to the end of the steam era on mainline railroads and somewhat longer on logging railroads.

"Very detailed and roll nice but dainty and tall."

I don't know what to make of these trucks. The detail is excellent and they roll great. For a couple extra bucks over some Kato's you get an assembly which floats on mini-springs. Definitely interesting. Probably not the toughest wheel set in the world due to that feature. They also made two of my gondolas ride enough higher they went from using center position Kadee whisker couplers to oversets. The higher center of gravity has to off set any advantage the sprung wheels offer.
