"NICE BUT COULD BE BETTER"

This is a simple plane to buld but not much detale. There are three fig for the cockpit but no detale in it. the inst are easy as is the color chart. The decals are big but easy to use. It is a big plane for 72nd scale but a easy plane for all.

"there are better betty's"

This kit is kind of large but the quality is on the low side. The windows really don't fit well as can be seen in this picture. The landing gear doors are not well detailed and will want to fall off until the glue really sets. The kit is very old moldings so it has a lot of flash so bring your exacto knife. the kit does go together well enough though the wings had to be held in place until the glue sets or they tend to droop. The props on mine went in easy and they spin. The fuselage detail is very old school with all the rivets raised to show the detail this was a problem for the decals as you could not get all the air out from under the decals due to the rivets. The good thing is the decals are big so they will stay put. The guns are just stick into the glass deals with no real mounts and there is no interior detail. This is okay as you will be painting all that glass which has loads of frames in them so paint them before installing the glass its much easier that way.

"this plane has its ups and downs (no pun intended)"

Out of the box the model is kind of disappointing. It’s a huge box, but most of it is empty space. The direction sheet has only 11 steps, there are 54 parts, and very few decals. There is some nice exterior detail with all of the riveting, but the detail ends there. One of the more upsetting things is there should be a window in the waist of the fuselage, but Lindberg chose to represent this with black decals. The decals are of ok quality, but mine were really old, and the clear portion had yellowed. However, I was able to get them to clear up by setting them in the sun for a few hours. The interior detail consists of three crew and three seats, and that’s it. You can actually see down the whole length of the fuselage if you flash a light in there. The accuracy is also pretty bad. I’m pretty sure the props on the G4m2 were 4 bladed (the model has 3 bladed props), the real plane had a nose gun, and two side guns (missing on the model). The two guns that are provided look more like American 50 calibers than Japanese type 99’s. It's got a pretty solid construction for a model, but the fit can be pretty bad. Just about everything will leave a big ugly seam when you put it together. However, the model isn’t without its merits. It’s inexpensive, it’s built to be very sturdy so you can play with it if you want a toy, and the construction is very simple. I think this would be the perfect model for a youngster who wants to have a fun toy to build and play with, or for a parent building a model with his/her kid, or even if you’re new to modeling and want a simple kit to get started in the hobby. If you’re more experienced, and/or you want an accurate and detailed G4M2, then, I’d shell out the extra money for the hasegawa kit.
