I built this using the included 29mm motor modification, as I don't have any 24mm hardware other than the AT24/40, and that would've limited my options too much (if, however, you have 24mm CTI hardware, the variety of loads is much larger!). The trickiest part of this is that the instructions give you a decimal inch measurement to mark off on each of the fuel tubes (0.46) This isn't found on most rulers, so I used a vector drawing program (like Adobe Illustrator or InkScape) to draw a line exactly that length. I printed it out, and that made the the process go much easier. Would it be a disaster if you took off 0.5? No, your tube would have about 1.1mm extra cut out, but I like the challenge.
I did modify it from the factory design- I turned the transition section into an av-bay for a dual deploy altimeter option. This increased the weight a bit, but I'll be able to fly this on beefier 29mm motors. Because of the dual deploy and possibility for larger thrust, I used epoxy in the construction. I also used rail buttons in place of the included lug. My only regret is that I saw Loc's facecard for the rocket, and think it looks so perfectly Russian in that scheme, that I tried to recreate it. Somehow i screwed it up and now it looks more Iron Man than Russian...but it still flies great! I'll post a picture when I get home.
