This book deals with the Normandy campaign at a strategic level, is more focused on distance, looking at the whole picture. It starts with the planning of the landings, the action in the beaches, the fight for Caen, operation Cobra and ends with Falaise Pocket. I used to loved this old campaign book. (in fact is the oldest of this osprey series of books), and by old it doesn´t mean nothing bad at all. This book, as usual with the Campaign series, analyse commanders, the planing, equipments and the armies, before and during the battle and it tells the story from both sides, attacker and defender. Full color drawings of soldiers, tanks, airplanes, etc. and maps, as well as color and black and white photographs that supports the text. I also have the other Osprey books of D-Day beaches itself, and of the Caen, Totalize, Cobra, etc. Operations, which are much more in depth studies, of this campaign, all of those books i love to have them, but this book, to me is irreplaceable, i really like the way it shows the big picture.
