Stearman PT-13D Kaydet

A fairly easy and straightforward little model to build. Molded in a bright yellow plastic, flash was at a minimum and the parts aligned fairly well. The only filling needed was on the underside where the main wing joined up to the fuselage. The only issue of note was difficulty in aligning the fuselage and wing struts to the upper wing. The kit instructions were easy to follow and included a rigging diagram. The box art and instruction sheet allowed me to add details such as air data probes and boarding steps and to properly place the decals. The decal sheet allows for one plane to be built, but includes some very small stencil markings. Overall, the kit builds up into a very attractive model of this famous aircraft. Some modeling skills are recommended, especially if you plane on rigging the model.

Revell are not always the easiest kits to build. It is not that they are not simple, it is just that the require a little extra effort (mainly plastic putty and sanding) to achieve a realistic result. Having said this, I was rather pleasantly surprised with this kit. A little over flash on the sprues, after clean up the parts fit together well, and the detail was amazing, far greater than with most other Recall kits I have built. The seams still needed a little attention in order to hide them, but for the price this kit was excellent value for money as most Recall kits are. I achieved a realistic result with a lot less effort than other Revell kits. Definitely worth what I paid, and the effort put in. This makes for a great addition to any collection.

Bought this to hang in my son's room. Perfect size for that purpose.
