this color is like red brown, with more red in it. as far as quality it is great.

This is pretty much a necessary paint if you're going to do ships (even water line ships usually have a tiny bit of hull showing). It's definitely got a lot of rusty brown color in it which also makes it suitable for rust effects (I've done some dry brushing on flat surfaces to get some convincing rust streaks) and it can also be a neat shade for leather (I like to use it for the head rest on some of my fighters). It's a really good paint for the airbrush, but it can also be used with normal brushes too. Its consistency is a bit on the thick side, but thins well with water (though Tamiya also makes an acrylic thinner that is better). For brush painting you should thin it to 5-6 parts paint to 1 part water to get a very nice brushstroke free look in 3-4 coats. For airbrushing, thin more. Despite its name, this is a very versatile paint.

Not really any substitute for this. I might mix in a little regular red, though. This is pretty brown in color.
