Ferrari F40 Sportscar

I built this kit a few years ago. For me the build felt clunky from the start. The parts all fit well, but for some unknown reason it just didn't end up as I expected. I don't know if it was the kit or me. I would love to build this one again to see. The packaging was done right and it protected the very detailed parts. The engine is a gem. The fit was excellent. The instructions were logical and easy to understand. The engineering of the kit was really good. So I don't know what went wrong with mine. My results were not awful, but it just didn't meet my expectations for this kit. I would love to build it again to see if my mediocre results were my fault or the kit's fault. Probably mine. Whenever I build a Tamiya car model, I expect a contest winner. Even though I'm not satisfied with how mine came out, I really can't fault this kit which has so many positive points out of the box. Other builders might have better results than I did, so I will recommend this kit.

It's been a long time since I've been this disappointed in a model kit. It's a Tamiya kit so the casting is great and detail is good. Unfortunately, Tamiya turned what could have been a really nice kit into a total dud with the colors they cast the parts in, The body is cast in Red, the chassis is cast in Black, both of which are doable, but not as good as white. Worst of all, the engine parts are cast in this really funky kind of metallic silver gray, like the stuff they use to simulate metal on toys you buy at the local dollar store. The overall feeling I got when I opened the box was like getting a really expensive Snap-Tite kit that requires glue. None of this was noted in the advertising for the kit. I thought I was getting a really nice kit made for real modelers, not a toy for millennials. I think I won't be buying anymore Tamiya Model car kits.

This is an iconic car. The recent ones may be more effective, but this under 1 ton explosive kart still is the king. This model faithfully reproduces the car, engine bay very well detailed, no probs whatsoever. Tyres are astonishing!
