"Good gunmetal finish but a bit dark."
mike
This particular paint has a very good application/finish to it providing an extremely dark metal flaked appearance for gun barrels and similar components. In my experience the finish was a bit dark for my tastes so I mix it with a silver/chrome paint to get the tone a bit lighter to give a more worn metal finish to the project. If you're looking for a very dark metal finish such as found on most modern weapons out of the bottle this is an excellent paint, if you want a more worn vintage appearance you will have to mix it with a lighter metal color in order to adjust it's finish.

"best bang for your buck"

This is the only stuff i buy for brush painting. Its got excellent coverage and its not blotchy. Gives you the best bang for your buck if you do a lot of modeling.

"Excellent paint"

Model Master is usually a safe bet for paints, and their Gunmetal is one of their best colors. It closely resembles the blued metal of modern firearms, and has a subtle, dark metal flake mixed in. The paint needs minimal stirring, and usually covers in one coat. In addition to the obvious gun parts, gunmetal can also be used to paint some engine parts. A dry-brushing of silver can be added to gunmetal parts to give them a worn look and to highlight detail, since actual firearms acquire dings and dents which turn silver with use.

"Good paint, average colour"

This testors Gunmetal is a nice colour to have for gun barrels, and other gun parts, however I find the colour leaning towards a dark navy blue, which is for some people a great colour to have to guns etc, but i found that for me the colour needs a darker shade or metal pigment. Even after stirring for a long time, it still renders far too blue onto the final plastic part. Also the paint is very thick, and needs some drops of thinner. Another concern is that the paint (without thinner) needs much longer time to dry than other same manufacturer paints. Lastly, the coverage of the paint (hand brushing only) is not full bodied, and leaves clear brush marks, even on small surfaces.

Comments

  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Highly Flammable Paint.
  • Use with adequate ventilation.
  • In case of eye contact, flush eye with water for fifteen minutes and seek medical help.
  • If airbrushing, use Airbrush Thinner (TESR2999)
