"Slightly disappointed"

I know its a rerelease of a very old kit, and maybe my expectations were a bit high because I got the revell vw rabbit shortly before this and expected the same quality but this kit almost bummed me out when I got it. It has metal rod axles, quiet a bit of flashing, the body parts need to be tweaked a little to fit right, and no transparent pieces for the lights, the headlights, turn signals, and grille are 1 molded and plated piece. One of the custom wheels broke as soon as I tried to stick the axle in. However the rims themselves are really cool. Not the tires though. But it is a scirocco and to me that alone deserves at least 4 stars and a recommendation

Model is well represented. Packaging in good shape. Trimming of excess plastic from production will be needed prior to assembly.

"Disappointing design"

I was dismayed by the poor quality and engineering flaws (or lack of engineering) in the design of this kit. I have seen a lot of resin cast bodies and parts with far less flash. This kit has major fitment issues, main one being the engine/transaxle mounting in the correct position inside the engine bay. The custom wheels are nice, but designed to be used only in the wide body Race version. This kit requires a lot of outside the box thinking to be built up into a decent looking shelf model. If you love early water cooled VWs and like a challenge, this kit will test your patience but with careful, thoughtful problem solving it can look decent in a collection. I know its very old tooling and design. However, it seems the engineers didnt even try after they came up with the decent looking body shape. Definitely not a kit for beginners.
