"Nice Corsair for the money"
jtanaka300 (jtanaka300@aol.com)
For the money, you can’t beat the price. This kit fits together well and has some nice features such as the cockpit, landing gears bay, and the two-piece engine. This kit comes with 34 parts and has decals for the “Checker Board” VMF-312 US Marine and the VF-84 US Navy, thus your diorama can be either land or aircraft based. This is not a bad kit, but not a great kit either. It lacks some major details such as no round access panel directly in front of the canopy, the oil cooler being off (the vents area on the front of the wings), and some lack of access panels on the fuselage, front and rear wings, and the rudder. Additionally, this kit has raised panel lines and has no pilot figure. However, with a little work, you can create a great model.

"Good not great"

If you’re looking for a simple easy model to build, this might be the one for you. The detail is pretty sparse, the panel lines are raised rather than recessed, and although the decals are of good quality, there’s very few of them. On the bright side, this model fit together beautifully! Mine had no flash and only a few little bits that needed a trim. The two fuselage halves joined seamlessly, and I only had to spend 1-2 minutes sanding just to clean up a little glue. I did have a little trouble getting the engine on, but it wasn’t anything terrible. Although detail is lacking, it’s a fun fast little build, and it’s sturdy too making it good for a toy.

"Nice beginner kit..."

Overall this is a nice little buildable kit... It's not the most detailed but it does have potential with a bit of work... Good kit for a beginner and to practice your skills but not if you are looking for a highly detailed kit...

"More detail needed for the Hasegawa F4U1D"

I am not impressed with this kit. The price definitely reflects the quality of the kit. It would be a good purchase it you plan to practice techniques or teach a newer modeler. The details are sparse. There is very little detail in the cockpit, landing gear bays and paneling. The paneling is slight and raised rather then engraved. The cockpit has 3 decals that are meh. The best detail is seen in the tires. The detail engine is ok. The kit has markings for 2 different styles. The plastic looks a bit cheaper then better kits and there is flash everywhere. I will not build this kit. I will donate it to the activities department at the veteran's home I work at. Other Hasegawa aircraft I have built have good fitting parts. The build is very simple on this kit based on the part count and instructions. I suppose if you did wish to spruce up this kit you could buy cockpit, armaments and undercarriage kits but then the overall price would increase in turn. I guess you could also spend time etching your own paneling and riveting but this is a bit too tedious for me.
