Accurail cars have a great amount of detail under them these days and also with the open ends of hopper cars. As a result they are a little more challenging to build than the old Accurail kits, but first timers need not be afraid, as the instructions are clear and the images are top notch so they're easy to understand. The painting and the printing on the cars are very nice.
But there is a big problem. They will offer to sell you decals with different road numbers so you can have up 12 cars with their own individual numbers. Don't do it. What I got were not decals. They were a sheet of peel off the back and stick to the car numbers and ends. It is glaringly obvious these are an add on and not being scored on the sheet to make cuts means you better be able to make a nice clean cut.
If you want a really nice car here's what I'd recommend. Buy some real decals. Put some Intermountain IRC40050 metal wheels under them. These are free rolling to begin with but I've found they are especially so with Accurail trucks, for whatever reason. I use and prefer Kadee Whisker couplers on all my rolling stock, but the #5 universal couplers work just as well. So you will also want to order KAD10 coupler pack.
I have one more recommendation. If you can afford it buy an Accurail three pack. The unit price is better and you get enough Intermountain wheels to do 3 cars, and the couplers are a 10 pack (you'll wind up using them anyway.) And you can order all of it right here at the same time so you have an only one time shipping charge, which saves money as well.
Happy modeling...
