Bettendorf Trucks (2)

I have a large number of Tyco and Life-Like freight cars. All too often when pulling out the snap-in trucks, the snaps break (Particularly on older 1970s production, as the plastic can become a bit brittle), and with the large kingpin hole, most freight trucks are not easy to mount to the car. These trucks are very handy when replacing a truck with a cracked kingpin snap. Generally, Life-Like and Tyco cars can use each others' trucks, too. The usual Tyco truck seems to be a 70-Ton ride control truck, used later in the 1940s, and among the last journal trucks allowed in interchange service. Life-Like's truck is more on the mark for a Bettendorf, so are more appropriate for earlier style cars, such as woodside boxcars and reefers. Kadee's #212 talgo adapter allows the use of Kadee #5 couplers with these trucks, though some minor filing or trimming may be needed on the coupler pocket tongue. All in all a good truck, tends to free roll quite well, and really the only truck left on the market that will snap in directly into Tyco and Life-Like cars.
