"Fi167 Recon Bomber Set Review"
Alex Biever
This 1/350 scale kit is from a Chinese model company called Trumpeter. This company is familiar to me since I’ve made mostly their ship kits as well as some of their airplane kits in the past. This is the smallest kit I’ve worked on since the Kawasaki Ki-61 Tony fighter of relatively the same scale. The pros of this kit are as follows: There are six sets of pieces in this box! So if you either mess up on or lose some pieces while this kit, then you should have plenty of spare pieces to help you along. The instructions are written on the box so you will have no excuse for losing them. The building of the aircraft is excellent as the majority of the pieces fit perfectly without additional sanding. The painting of the kit is very good too. The cons of this kit are as follows: There’s no brief description of the aircraft anywhere in the box. The decals were bit of challenge to put on, especially the swastika decals that are split in half for some reason or another. The most serious con in my book is that there is no list of paints you’ll need for this kit. I know they have colored illustrations of the paint schemes from all angles and placement of the decals on the box. But like I said before, they don’t tell you what colors you’ll need for this kit. I had to look into a book called “Luftwaffe Colours 1935-1945” by Michael Ullmann to find out about the colors for this kit. According to the book in one of their paint schemes they used RLM 65 Hellblau (Light blue in German), RLM 72 Grün (Green), and RLM 73 Grün (Green). In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. It is great kit to buy and build to go alongside the German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin in a diorama of some sorts. Or if you’re a person that likes to build tiny aircraft in general. I’ve build this kit because I love this hobby! Trumpeter if you’re reading this I highly recommend that you put down a paint list on all of your 1/350 kits if you wish to continue making them, because it’s a matter of necessity.
