"Great kit the $$"

The boxing for this kit is very sturdy and all clear parts are very well protected. The kit comes with 6 gray sprues and 1 sprue for the clear parts. Surface detail and recessed panel lines are excellent. Cockpit detail is very good for 1/72 with decals used for instruments and consoles. The fit of the kit was very good with smart engineering taking care of most trouble areas. The fuselage halves are molded with a top and bottom with the wings attached, so no seams to worry about. The instructions are probably the weakest part of the kit. The canopy is in 2 pieces but there is no mention of posing it in the open position even though there is a part included for doing it. Ordinance selection is good and all missiles are 1 piece, so no glueing missile halves together. Decals went down with no issues, however the callout sheet for decal placement can be a little confusing. Take a little extra time. Kit makes into a BIG airplane. For $24 the kit is a must have.

"Trumpeter SU-27"

At first the part count intimidated me. It was listed at over 110. Once I started building, I found that 86 of the parts were for missiles and their mounting pylons. It stopped being a scary kit after that. It went together well. Not much filling was required. I did knock off the parts outside of the cockpit a few times while painting. I would love to build another member of the Flanker family from Trumpeter at some point.

Information

The Su-27 Flanker is the fighter aircraft designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by Irkut Corporation. The export version is the Su-27SK.

Su-27 entered production in 1982 and is in service with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, and is built under license in China as the F-11. A variant, the Su-30MKK, has been sold to China.
