"Reasonable nose cone"
erik.mckee (Portland, OR)
As mentioned before, nose cone is useful for mid and high power rockets. Mine weighed in at 94g or 3 1/4 oz, so weight may be somewhat variable. Exposed length is 9, with a 3 shoulder. Has a stout connection point for a 1/4 eye loop, but the built in loop is of questionable strength for HPR applications. Seams don't meet perfectly (particularly at the tip of the cone), but are acceptable, if requiring a bit of filler.

"LOC nose cone"

LOC nose cones are of good quality for your low power rockets. Their sizing fit the specifies tubes well and their shape is traditional low drag design. As with all blow molded nose cones, there will be a seam that will show through paint if you don't sand it out. LOC cones have enough shoulder on their nose cones that cutting the cap off leaves plenty room for bulkhead configurations if desired. good product.

"Decent mid-power cone"

This is a sturdy nose cone that with a little work can be made to look very good. As the previous reviewer mantioned, it has some deep seams that will need filling before you think about painting. I picked one up to clone a THOY Wren, an early 90's small manufacturer kit that ranks as a seldom seen bird at sport launches. It was also the cone used in a lot of other THOY kits of the era.

"Sturdy, but heavy-- good for larger rockets."

This a very robust nose cone ideal for mid-power or even high-power rockets. It's heavy, weighing in at 4 ounces, and made of a different material than standard Estes nose cones-- it's the same stuff milk cartons are made of. It's not compatible with the Estes tubing because of wall thickness, so you'll need the LOC 2.56 airframe tubing. (http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/loc/locbt256.htm) This kind of plastic is much more difficult to paint, so it's important to wash off the mold release residue (it's there whether you can feel it or not, and could make your paint peel right off it you don't get rid of it) and then sand the nose cone with high grit sandpaper to give the primer something to grab on to. After priming, just sand smooth and paint. I know this seems a little in depth for a product review, but I've only seen it mentioned a couple of places and it's important to for getting a good finish. All in all, a good deal for a nose cone of this size.
