Solid Foxbat
Nice kit, especially the large R-40 missiles. Includes two decal options (USSR and Libya). Proper placement of the missile pylons was surprisingly tricky, since there are no alignment holes. No pilot seat included. I used a spare from a Su-27 kit (TSM3909) and bored a custom hole to fit.
Excellent tiny model of a huge aircraft
Lots to love about this very nice model of this large Russian aircraft in 1/144 scale. Quite good fit (little sanding and basically no filling), easy assembly, and depending on your choice of paint scheme, this was basically a hassle-free and unusually quick project. No cockpit detailing ('tub,' ejection seat, instrument panels, etc.) of any sort is included, but the omission, coupled with the extremely easy assembly, actually account for considerable time-savings in completing the kit. However, in this scale, the lack of a complete cockpit shouldn't really detract from an otherwise well-finished model; after all, if these items were included, anyone checking out your Mig when finished would have to get VERY close to even notice. In my opinion, simply painting the cockpit and interior flat black and moving on won't really hurt the looks at all, so long as reasonable care is exercised with the rest of the build and finishing. On the other hand, the lack of these details could be readily remedied with a little creative effort. Actually, it might be a lot of fun to tackle such a project, and a bit of home-grown scratch building, or utilizing in-scale after-market goodies and/or borrowing bits from other, older, incomplete or failed projects even make it quite practical, in my opinion, if that's something the builder would enjoy taking on. I haven't totally made up my mind yet about giving it a shot myself, although it would be much more difficult now, since I've basically fused the front-end, side-by-side fuselage halves with plastic cement -- so, well... maybe not. :-)
Naturally, the completed model is still small, given the scale (my favorite, actually), but if the builder has other 1/144 scale contemporary aircraft on display, the Mig-25 still will stand out as one of the largest -- after all, even with its failings, the Foxbat is an AWFULLY fast and very big aircraft! :-) Among other interceptors, recon aircraft and fighters, it very well could be the largest of them all, or at least one of the top five or so.
So, even without the cockpit goodies now common on many other models in this scale, the Minicraft Mig-25 Foxbat is a very nice kit; one that the modeler can turn into a real head-turner with not too much extra effort. I scored mine for less than ten bucks delivered, so not only did I get an easy-assembly, well-fitting, higher quality and good looking little model of an iconic Soviet aircraft, the price was awesome too! Absolutely recommended.
