Classic MPC Eagle is back - New decals are a definite improvement - Satisfying build

The Eagle Transporter from Space: 1999 was created in the early 1970’s, but the design has aged well and still looks good today. MPC released the kit originally in 1975, and again in 1999. Round2/MPC has brought it back and provided some incentives to buy, even for those who may already have some of the old kits. This model probably looks a lot more complex to build than it really is. Molded in white plastic this time around, a decent model can be had if the builder simply glues it together, adding appropriate painted details such as the silver engine nozzles. A new decal sheet provides a couple easy options for the windows and includes many other markings and details that were not present in other releases. Modelers who desire a more realistic model are easily rewarded since the assembly is very modular, due to the design of the ship and the kit. Parts fit isn’t too bad. A pass of filler putty for gaps in the bottom of the travel pod might be in order. It is a fairly simple matter to putty, sand, prime, and paint the ship in the various subassemblies before final construction and this is probably a good kit for modelers wishing to advance those skills. Accuracy isn’t a hundred percent with a few off-angles here and there, but the advanced modeler can make corrections such as opening up the latticework in the service module corridors and scratch-building the innards. This concession that simplified engineering of the kit in the first place seems to be the biggest criticism leveled by avid Space: 1999 modeler/aficionados. The new box is a close copy of the 1975 version. An interesting inaccuracy there is depiction of the red fuel tanks, which were never seen on the Eagles in the show. Die-hard fans know that the red stripes on the passenger module represent the Rescue variant. Leaving off the stripes simplifies painting and is accurate for the plainer-looking passenger Eagle. There is plenty of modeling fun to be had here. This kit will not disappoint.
