So this ad is the motivation behind my build. The 1976 GMC Impact Edition. I love the way it looks so I wanted to emulate that in a step side.

Inspired by the add, I tried to reproduce the paint and body in a set side version. Added the air dam on the roof. This truck kit comes with a 350 C.I. Motor, so I scrounged the parts bin for a 454 C.I. Motor from a Chevelle kit, the engine bay is cavernous. Since the kit is pretty basic, I grabbed

Since I adjusted the body stance on the chassis, I added slightly more height to the engine so it would sit flush as if were stock height. Wasn’t looking to crazy ondetals but how could I NOT add ignition wires? Parts fit well and quality is obvious.

Added a couple scale inches to lift the chassis 3 inches in the rear and 2 inches up front. I used solder for exhaust pipes and hollow aluminum tube for chromed exhaust tips.

The kit built well. I have the original kit from 1977 which is exactly the same. I prefer the white to a kit molded in color because you have a clean pallet to paint a masterpiece. Since I’m a Square Body fan, this is my first time building this kit since 1977, so I bought plenty to build each ver
