American LaFrance Aero Chief Fire Truck

I must confess a strong nostalgic connection to this kit. It was the first large model I ever built as a kid. I won the local hobby shop model building contest that was held every summer in my hometown of Ft. Lauderdale. It was the mid 70’s and I used my winnings to buy this kit. I built the model and won the following year with my build. I then used those winnings to buy the AMT Pumper and Ladder Truck that AMT offered. So, this model kit has a great deal of good memories associated with it. With all that having been said, here’s my obviously biased review. I still think this is a great kit. The box and the contents look exactly like I remembered as a kid. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I still think the kit is a good value and lots of decent parts. This kit is easily customizable and you can add detail to your heart’s content with a steady hand and a good detailed brush. For anyone that enjoys the genre of heavy trucks, especially fire trucks, this is a great kit and I would highly recommend it. Originally this Fire Truck series had the Snorkel, Ladder Truck, Pumper, EMT Van and a Fire Chief Sedan. They have already released the AMT Van and I hope that AMT re-releases the other models from this series as well. I hope you found this of value and if you built this kit so many years ago as a kid, you won’t be disappointed with this as an ever so small chance to recapture your youth.
